Back to Lagos: Kai Cenat Returns as Nigerians Watch Closely for School Project Breakthrough

Popular Twitch streamer and global internet sensation Kai Cenat is back in Lagos—and this time, the attention feels different.

Cenat arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Wednesday to a lively band performance and an enthusiastic welcome that quickly set social media buzzing. For many Nigerians, his return isn’t just about celebrity excitement; it’s about hope, expectations, and a promise still waiting to be fulfilled.

This marks Cenat’s second visit to Nigeria, nearly a year after his first trip, when he announced an ambitious plan to build a $5 million school for children in Makoko, the well-known waterfront community often referred to as Lagos’ floating slum. That announcement was widely celebrated and positioned Cenat as more than just a visiting star, but a partner in social impact.

However, the journey since then hasn’t been smooth.

The project faced delays due to land ownership issues and regulatory challenges in Makoko. Given the community’s floating structures, plans were eventually revised, and the school location was moved to Yaba, a more stable and accessible area of Lagos. Despite the relocation, Cenat has repeatedly assured Nigerians that children from Makoko will receive free education once the school opens.

During Mafiathon 3, Cenat gave the most detailed update yet, revealing that over $1 million has already been raised toward the project. He emphasized a careful, phased approach to spending, explaining that his focus is on building a sustainable institution, not a rushed structure that won’t last.

Now that he’s physically back in Lagos, excitement has surged once again. Fans are hopeful that this visit signals real on-ground progress. At the same time, some Nigerians remain cautiously sceptical, asking for clearer timelines and visible construction milestones.

Cenat’s visit also comes at a time when Nigeria is drawing increasing attention from global digital creators. Just weeks ago, fellow American streamer IShowSpeed toured Lagos, creating viral moments and massive fan turnouts. These back-to-back visits underline Nigeria’s growing influence in global digital culture and youth entertainment.

As Kai Cenat settles back into Lagos, one big question hangs in the air:

Will this second visit finally turn a powerful promise into a lasting reality?
